Aim & Scope
Zerbitzuan is a magazine specialized in the analysis of social welfare services and policies. Promoted by the Deputy Ministry of Social Affairs of the Basque Government, the magazine is produced by the SIIS Center for Documentation and Studies of the Eguía Careaga Foundation and is published through the Central Publication Service of the Basque Government.
Zerbitzuan began to be published in 1986, under the patronage of the Basque Social Welfare Council, with the aim of becoming a debate platform for professionals, members of associations and groups of users of Social Services. Over fifteen years, between 1986 and 2001, 39 more issues of the journal were published, with nearly 400 articles and just over 200 collaborating authors. During those years, the years of consolidation of the Basque social services system, Zerbitzuan was configured as one of the main forums for debate and information on social services in the Basque Country, and as one of the few specialized magazines on the subject available throughout the State Spanish.
After a five-year hiatus - the magazine was discontinued in 2001 - Zerbitzuanit is published again from the month of December 2006, with an updated design, a renewed Editorial Board -in which, in any case, some of its original members remain-, but with the same principles and objectives as in its previous stage: offering professionals, users and decision-makers in the field of social services a tool for in-depth knowledge and analysis of the very diverse subjects that in one way or another affect services and social policies that are developed in the Basque Country. Above strict thematic divisions or powers, the magazine is therefore open to the widest possible range of topics, methodologies and approaches, always within the broad field of social services and policies for welfare and social cohesion. From this point of view, they have a perfect place for articles on caring for the elderly, people with disabilities or minors, on issues related to immigration or drug addiction, on the organization and planning of services, on social participation in the definition of social policies or on their jurisdictional and regulatory approach.
