Aim & Scope
Reverend Léon Provancher, a famous Québec naturalist, founded the journal Le Naturaliste canadien in 1868. He bequeathed it to Canon Victor-A. Huard in 1891, who himself bequeathed it to the Université Laval in 1929. Following an agreement with the University in November 1994, the Société Provancher d'histoire naturelle du Canada agreed to take over the publication. Le Naturaliste canadien has been published for nearly 150 years and has become the official publication of the Society. By continuing to publish one of Canada's oldest French-language, scientific journals, the Society is helping to preserve a fascinating piece of Canadian scientific heritage. Le Naturaliste canadien is a Canadian journal published in French disseminating knowledge about natural sciences and the environment, with a focus on North American subject matter. Le Naturaliste canadien also serves as the liaison bulletin for members of the Société Provancher d’histoire naturelle du Canada. [1]
